About Us

What makes us special?

SSLC/JAFA is a division of the Silver Spring Jewish Center, an Orthodox Synagogue established in April of 1968. As part of the synagogue's funding charter, the organization's mission included the establishment and maintenance of a religious school. The SSLC has instituted the highest educational standards since its establishment in 1971 and we are honored to continue serving the community with the same dedication that we have shown from day one. Children of all ages thrive in our congenial, warm atmosphere where they are creatively stimulated, both socially and academically: our teachers provide a non-pressured warm atmosphere where children thrive socially while learning religious customs and traditions, language arts, modern math concepts, science, and social studies principles. We encourage creative expression through art, dramatics, music, and dance. Our mission is to promote a positive self-image within each child during these crucial early learning years.

SSLC welcomes children of all faiths and cultures to our program and attempts to give each child pride

in her or her identity. Students of Jewish faith become more familiar with Jewish symbols,

holidays, and customs enabling them to associate positive emotions with Judaism. As an option,

Judaic Enrichment classes are available for those families who desire a strong emphasis on

Hebrew language and religious tradition in combination with our regular secular program.
